IEMPHYIAD is an online International Physics Olympiad organised in this year for the first time with pomp and splendour by the Society for Makers, Artists, Researchers and Technologists, (SMART), USA which is jointly sponsored by Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) in association with Institute of Physics,Bhubaneshwar and Codechef.

This Olympiad aims at developing technological and physics knowledge among tech-learners and other students of 10+2 and above. This competition is organised to put more emphasis on knowledge of physics and its application rather than mere theory. This online competition will act as a source of inspiration among the learners of Physics.


Following are the rules.

  • There are two groups. Group A contains 20 questions. Group B contains 10 questions. You will not be able to view the problems of Group B unless you have successfully solved 15 problems of Group A. Each question of Group A carries 2 marks. Each question of Group B carries 6 marks. Total time of the examination is 2 hours.
  • Once you start the examination, you can not quit for 2 hours. If you quit, the examination will end.
  • To solve a problem, click on the Submit button from the problem page, and type the exact nearest integer answer in the box which says "Please insert your source code", and press Submit. For example, if the answer is 20.6, you have to type 21. If the answer is 20.5, you have to type 21. If the answer is 20.4, you have to type 20.
  • The participants will be ranked according to the marks obtained. Ties will be broken according to the time taken to reach that score.
  • Registration for this contest is free.
  • Every participant will be participating on their own. No collaboration is allowed. It is an individual contest.
  • Level of questions will be of Grade 11-12.
  • Upper age limit is restricted to 23 (as on 06.04.2019) for getting prize money.
  • All cash prize winners (Rank 1-3) need to give a valid date of birth proof
  • Please do not discuss strategy, suggestions or tips in the comments during a live contest. Posting questions clarifying the problem statement is ok. If you are unsure, email us at feedback@codechef.com.
  • Discussing CodeChef's problems or any aspect of problem, on any other platform on web, on identification, could lead to disabling of respective account and banning from the community.

  • The decision of the organizers in declaring the results will be final. No queries in this regard will be entertained.
